Biodiversity
The number of different and distinct species in a habitat.
Biodiversity Hotspots
Regions that are both rich in biodiversity and threatened by human habitation.
Greenhouse gases
Gases in the atmosphere that trap heat and contribute to the greenhouse effect.
Ozone Layer Depletion
The thinning of the ozone layer caused by pollutants, particularly CFCs.
Acid Rain
Precipitation that is significantly more acidic than normal due to pollutants.
Indicator Species
Species sensitive to environmental changes that can indicate the health of an ecosystem.
Wildlife Exploitation
The overharvesting or illegal capture of wildlife, leading to population declines.
Invasive Species
Non-native species that adapt and spread in new environments, often harming local ecosystems.
Urbanization
The enhancement of urban areas which leads to habitat fragmentation and loss.
Endangered Species Act (ESA)
A federal law aimed at protecting species at risk of extinction.
CITES
A global agreement to regulate trade in endangered species.

The scientific study aimed at protecting and managing biodiversity.
