Reciprocals
Two numbers are reciprocals if their product is 1. If a nonzero number is a fraction a/b, then its reciprocal is b/a. (ex. 4/9 and 9/4 are reciprocals. When multiplied together their product is 36/36 = 1.)
Quotient
The answer to a division problem.
Divisor
The number used to divide another number. (ex. In 56 ÷ 7 = 8, 7 is the divisor.)
Dividend
The number being divided. (ex. In 56 ÷ 7 = 8, 56 is the dividend.)
Inverse operation
Operations that undo each other.
Unit fraction
A fraction with a numerator (top number) of 1 and a denominator (bottom number) that is a whole number greater than 1. (ex. 1/3 is a unit fraction).
