To create a therapeutic relationship that enhances the pateints physical and emotional wellbeing
How does Active listening (eyes, ears, heart) differ from just hearing a patient?
It’s fully engaging, focusing your observation and intentionally listening (not just hearing). Shows the patient that you’re truly present
Which model describes communication as a linear, one way process where a sender intentionally transmits a message?
The transmission model (Ellis & McClintock). Describes poor communication where feedback is ignored

encoding = turning thoughts into a message
Decoding= turning a received message back into thoughts
In the interaction model, what specific element makes communication a 2 way process?
Feedback. Is the response sent back to the sender to confirm that the message was received

Being senders and receivers. We build social realties and relationships through this constant exchange

It encourages the patient to share more detail and express concerns that a yes/ no question would miss

To better understand and respond to personal health needs in a way that respects the patients background

Validates their experience, builds trust without lacing blame, which is essential for a therapeutic bond
Why must a nurse be a skilled communicator when facilitating a correct assessment
Because if a pateint can’t accurately share their symptoms, the nurse may reach the wrong clinical conclusion
