Epithelial Tissue
Composed of closely aggregated cells with minimal extracellular substance, functioning in covering and lining surfaces, absorption, secretion, sensation, and contractility.
Basal Lamina
A layer of extracellular material separating the epithelium from the connective tissue, primarily made of type IV collagen and other proteins.
Exocrine Glands
Glands that retain their connection with the surface epithelium, transporting their secretions through ducts.
Merocrine Secretion
A method of secretion where secretory granules leave the cell via exocytosis without losing any cellular material.
