Produces serous fluid, a thin, watery fluid that provides lubrication and decreases friction.
Parietal Layer
Lines the inside walls of cavities.
Visceral Layer
Lines the organs within cavities.
Cavity
The space between the visceral and parietal membranes.
Mucous Production
Mucous membranes line passageways that are open to the exterior, such as those in the digestive, respiratory, urinary, and reproductive tracts.
Serous Fluid
Fluid that decreases friction between the movements of visceral organs in thoracic and abdominopelvic cavities.
Structure of the Body
The body is made up of atoms.
