Reflex Arc
A relatively direct connection between a sensory neuron and a motor neuron that allows an extremely rapid response to a stimulus, often without conscious brain involvement.
Order of Reflex Arch
1) Receptor-site of stimulus action
2) Sensory neuron transmits afferent impulses to CNS
3) Integration center consists of 1 or more neurons in CNS
4) Motor neurons conduct efferent impulses to effector organ
5) Effector (muscle fibers or glands) respond to efferent impulse

Midbrain

Schwann cells
Type of neuroglia that produce myelin in PNS (forming myelin sheaths)
Microglia
Type of neuroglia that act as macrophages and remove damaged or invading cells
Ependymal cells
A type of neuroglia that line the ventricles in the brain. They manufacture CSF and circulate it through the empty ventricles into the rest of the CNS.
Oligodendrocytes
Type of neuroglia that produces myelin in CNS.
Astrocytes
A type of neuroglia that regulates the transmission of electrical impulses within the brain and provide neurons with nutrients. Also, it forms scar tissue the brain and provide neurons with nutrients.
