1: Tell me about yourself

Hi, I'm Braden Chu, and I'm a freshman at Northern Valley Demarest High School. I'm really passionate about science, math, and medicine. I'm a hard worker, responsible, and I love diving into new topics and researching things I'm not familiar with. For example, I’m currently learning about dermatology, athletic training, and liability involved with cases of negligence in medicine. At school, I’m taking all honors classes, but my favorite one is the Athletic Training and sports medicine program I am in. I find it interesting to learn about how the human body functions and how it responds to exercise and sports. I do well across the board in all my classes. Outside of academics, I’m on the varsity soccer team, and I’m also involved in several clubs, including DECA, Investment Club, Chinese Club, Academic Club, and Ski Club. Outside of school, I enjoy playing competitive soccer, running track, playing basketball with my friends and volunteering at the McBain farm that I live next to. Last summer, I worked as a camp counselor at Northern Valley Sports Academy Summer Camp, where I took care of kids aged 3 to 9, which helped me develop my responsibility and leadership skills. I think that my qualities and my experience with medicine would make me a great fit for an internship at the Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

2: Why are you interested in this position?

I am interested in this position because I am very interested in Medicine. Both of my parents are doctors and I enjoy listening to their conversations about work. I would love to get an internship at this cancer center so I can get experience in the field and work in real life situations.

4: How does this role align with your career goals?

This role aligns with my career goals because I want to find the correct position for my skill set. By getting this internship, I can learn more about the medical field and how my skill set fits each job. Also, I want to find a position that I find interesting and enjoyable

5: What do you hope to gain from this internship/part-time job?

I hope to gain valuable experience from this internship and learn more about cancer research and treatment. I also want to find the right career for me and how my skills do in different positions in the hospital.

6: What is your greatest strength?

My greatest strength is my strong work ethic and good time management. I make sure to prioritize tasks well, so I can meet deadlines without sacrificing quality. This helps me stay organized and get things done on time.

10: Can you describe a time when you successfully worked on a team?

One time I worked on a team was this summer. I was a camp counselor at the Northern Valley Sports Academy Summer camp and I worked together with my co-workers at to watch over the campers, serve them food, and make sure they were safe and had a good time. We had to have really good communication and teamwork skills as we had many campers to take care of.

11: What is your greatest weakness?

I think that my greatest weakness is being overly self-critical. I usually focus on what I could have done better, even if the outcome is already good.

16: How do you stay organized and manage your time?

I stay organized and manage my time by setting an order of operations, from most to least important. I sort these events on the Notes App, making a checklist in order. After school, I always make sure to do my homework and study for tests first before I do anything else.
