Hayonwhatha's invention of wampum shell strings is described on page 36 (=page 20 as printed on the page).  These shell strings have at least two purposes described there.

To fix people's words in a form so that they had be held account to doing what they say they will do.

According to Iroquois legend, Adodarhoh is the main obstacle to creating the Iroquois confederacy.  He was a warlord occupying the middle of Iroquois territory, in Onondaga country near what is today Syracuse.  After Dekanawida cures the evil in Adodarhoh's mind, what happens to him (and his successors)?

Adodarhoh is made into an Onondaga Lord or Rodiyaner, and is assigned the authority of deciding when to convene the Council.

How are the Iroquois Lords, or Rodiyaner, chosen for membership in the Council? (See pp. 59-60, or pp. 39-40 as printed; also pp. 62-64, or pp. 42-44 as printed.)

Women in each family or clan have right to choose which men to serve as Lords.  (Men in the clan then have to confirm the choice.)

Why is climate change mitigation an example of the "prisoner's dilemma"?

Each country is harmed by other countries' air pollution.

Every country shares the benefits of a stable climate with other countries, but most individual countries benefit directly from economic growth that relies on polluting industry.

Environmental problems involve long-term thinking, while political and economic leaders respond to short-term incentives, such as the need to keep their power or to reward constituents.
