Neutralization
A double replacement reaction that produces salt and water; also known as acid-base reactionthat occurs when an acid reacts with a base to produce a neutral solution.
pH Indicator
Changes color when there is a change in the concentration of hydrogen ions in the solution
Arrhenius Base
When in water it dissociates into hydroxide ions plus cations, increasing the pH of the solution
Buffer
A combination of weak acid and its conjugate base that resists changes in the concentration of hydrogen ions
Brønsted Lowry Base
Accepts a proton from another chemical
Salt
An ionic compound that forms by neutralization
Weak Acid
Molecular compound that, when stirred into water, remains mostly intact but a tiny fraction releases a proton of hydrogen
Conjugate
Upon accepting one proton of hydrogen it becomes the _____ acid; now it has one more proton of hydrogen in its formula
pH
Inversely related to the concentration of protons of hydrogen in the solution: its value increases when proton concentration decreases
Acidic
A solution with a pH less than 7, which has a higher concentration of hydrogen ions compared to pure water.
