Muscular system

The system that allows us to move, flex, and contort our bodies.

Synergists

Muscles that assist the prime mover in performing a movement.

Tendons

Connective tissue that connects muscles to bones.

Belly

The large mass at the center of a muscle.

Facial expression muscles

Muscles that insert into the skin and produce facial expressions.

Extrinsic eye muscles

Muscles that originate outside of the eye and insert onto the eyeball.

Suprahyoid muscles

Muscles that originate above the hyoid bone.

Diaphragm

A muscle that separates the thoracic and abdominal cavities.

Intrinsic muscles of the hand

Muscles that both originate and insert within the hand, providing fine motor control.

Pronation

The movement that turns the palm down.
