What is the haber process?
Process that makes ammonia
How do nitrogen and hydrogen react?
Nitrogen from the air is reacted with hydrogen from electrolysis of water
What is step 2?
They are passed over a catalyst at a temperature of 450 degrees and a pressure of over 200 atm (atmospheres)
What is step 3?
The high pressure favours the forward reaction, while a higher temperature increase the rate of reaction (good) but it also favours the reverse reaction (not good) so 400 degrees is a compromise temperature
Why do we do this?
This is to maximise the yield of ammonia produced, while ensuring the reaction also happens at a reasonable rate
