Batten-
a wood or metal pipe from which stage lights, drops, and scenery are hung.
Electric-
a batten with electric devices on it (lights etc...)
Instrument:
Any lighting unit intended for use with the theatre, often programed in a lighting console, and hung on a batten.
Ellipsoidal-
instrument that uses an ellipsoidal lens, allowing for a highly controlled and focused light.
Fresnel-
a lighting instrument using a fresnel lens, creating a large area of well diffused light.
Strip light-
a strip of sockets in a single fixture often filtered with color
Scoop-
flood lite using large scoop-shaped reflector
Circuit-
the area where electricity flows
Dimmer-
a device used to control how much voltage is supplied to a circuit.
Control channel-
controls one or more circuit/dimmer
Sub master-
Controls one or more Control Channel
Cross Fader-
Used during a show to control the fading in and out of light from one stage area to another simultaneously.
Grand Master-
Controls all powered elements programed into the lighting control Counsel.
c-clamp-
Metal clamp in the shape of a C used to attach materials to a batten.
twist nut-
adjusts the twist of the lighting instrument
yoke-
handle of a lighting instrument
yoke nut-
adjusts the tilt of the yoke
housing-
the metal structure that encloses a lighting instrument
guts-
the internal part of a lighting instrument responsible for connecting the lamp.
barrel-
the extend portion of ellipsoidal that contains the lenses.
shutter-
modifies the shape of light cast by the instrument
gobo-
thin metal template with a pattern punched out attached to a lighting inst. to create patterned or textured lighting effects

source of light in stage lighting instruments, made up of a tungsten filament, halogen gas and a crystal encasement.

Operator, Fader, Dimmer, Circuit, Instrument, Light.
Wireless Command Chain-
Operator, Fader, Sow baby, receiver, Light.
PAR-
Parabolic Aluminized Reflector
Rule of 45-
The desire to have lighting from 45 degrees up and of set by 45 degrees to the left and right.
Rule of 80-
the desire to keep dimmer loads below 80% of their maximum potential.
