Miracidium
The free-swimming larval stage of a trematode that hatches from the egg.
Sporocyst

Metacercaria
The encysted larval stage of a trematode, found on leaves or in the second intermediate host.
Hexacanth embryo

PPP (Prepatent period)
The time required for a parasite to mature and produce eggs after infection of a host.
Pathogenesis
The mechanism by which a disease develops in a host.
Zoonotic threat
A disease that can be transmitted from animals to humans.
Acanthor
The larval stage of an acanthocephalan worm, contained within an egg.
Proglottid
A segment of a tapeworm that contains reproductive structures.
Scolex
The anterior part of a tapeworm, equipped for attachment to the host's intestines.
