Atmosphere
The layer of gases surrounding the Earth.
Troposphere
The lowest layer of Earth's atmosphere where most weather occurs.
Tropopause
The boundary between the troposphere and the stratosphere.
Stratosphere
The layer of the atmosphere above the troposphere, characterized by a temperature increase with altitude.
Stratopause
The boundary between the stratosphere and the mesosphere.
Mesosphere
The layer of the atmosphere above the stratosphere, where temperatures decrease with altitude.
Mesopause
The boundary between the mesosphere and the thermosphere.
Thermosphere
The layer of the atmosphere above the mesosphere, where temperatures increase significantly with altitude.
Ozone
A gas in the stratosphere that absorbs harmful solar radiation.
Altitude
The height above Earth's surface, often affecting pressure and temperature.
Air Pressure
The force exerted by the weight of air above a given point.
Pressure Gradient
The rate of pressure change occurring over a distance in the atmosphere.
Barometer
An instrument that measures atmospheric pressure.
High Pressure
A region where the air pressure is greater than the surrounding area.
Low Pressure
A region where the air pressure is lower than the surrounding area.
Wind
The movement of air from high-pressure areas to low-pressure areas.
Albedo
The measure of how much sunlight is reflected by a surface.
Absorption
The process by which substances take in light or heat.
Reflection
The bouncing back of light or heat from a surface.
Convection
The transfer of heat through the movement of fluids (liquids or gases).
Conduction
The transfer of heat through direct contact of materials.
Radiation
The transfer of energy through electromagnetic waves.
Coriolis Effect
The deflection of moving objects (like winds) due to Earth's rotation.
