sterilize area
hold catheter a 30-40 angle from the leg directly over the vein
advance catheter in skin, bevel io, until flash of blood
advance catheter and off stylet
stop occluding
remove stylet
attach the plug into catheter
apply tape to hold in place
define 10 drop set
10 drops/ml for over 10kg
define 60 drop set
60 drops/ml for less than 10kg
replacement is dependent on
dehydration
blood loss
vomiting
diarrhea
sweating
fluid rate units
ml/hr
