net force
combined sum of all forces pushing or pulling on an object
newton first law
An object at rest remains at rest, or if in motion, remains in motion at a constant velocity unless acted on by a net external force.
newtons second law
The acceleration of the body is directly proportional to the net force acting on the body and inversely proportional to the mass of the body.
newtons third law
for every action (force) in nature there is an equal and opposite reaction
inertia
the natural tendency of objects in motion to stay in motion and objects at rest to stay at rest, unless a force causes its velocity to change
coeffiecient of friction
the ratio between friction force and normal force
contact force
any force that occurs as a result of two objects making contact with each other
equilibrium
a state in which opposing forces or influences are balanced.
field force
the region of space surrounding a body, such as a charged particle or a magnet, within which it can exert a force on another similar body not in contact with it
kinetic friction
the force that acts on an object in motion, opposing its movement.
net external force
the vector sum of all the forces acting on a system from the outside of the system.
static friction
a force that keeps an object at rest.
universal forces
gravity, electromagnetism, nuclear
