Rectus Femoris

O: Anterior Inferior Iliac Spine

I: Patella through quadriceps tendon, Tibial tuberosity of tibia through patellar ligament

A: Extend knee, flex hip

N: Femoral Nerve (L2, L3, L4)

Vastus Medialis

O: Intertrochanteric line of femur, Medial lip of linea aspera

I: Patella through quadriceps tendon, Tibial tuberosity of tibia through patellar ligament

A: Extend knee

N: Femoral Nerve (L2, L3, L4)

Vastus Intermedius

O: Proximal 2/3 of anterio-lateral femur, distal ½ of linea aspera

I: Patella through quadriceps tendon, Tibial tuberosity of tibia through patellar ligament

A: Extend knee

N: Femoral Nerve (L2, L3, L4)

Vastus Lateralis

O: Greater trochanter of femur, proximal ½ of linea aspera of femur

I: Patella through quadriceps tendon, Tibial tuberosity of tibia through patellar ligament

A: Extend knee

N: Femoral Nerve (L2,L3,L4)

Pectineus

O: Superior ramus of pubis

I: Pectineal line of femur

A: Flex hip, adduct hip

N: Obturator nerve (L2,L3,L4)

Iliopsoas

O:

• Iliacus: iliac fossa, iliac crest

• Psoas Major: transverse process of lumbar vertebrae, intervertebral disc

I: Lesser trochanter of femur

A: flexes hip, external rotation of hip, abduction of hip

N:

• Iliacus: femoral nerve (L2, L3, L4)

• Psoas Major: lumbar plexus (L1, L2, L3, L4)

Sartorius

O: Anterior superior iliac spine of ilium

I: Proximal part of medial tibia (near anterior border)

A: Flex hip, External rotation of hip, abduct hip, flex knee, internally rotate knee

N: Femoral nerve (L2, L3, L4)

Adductor Longus

O: Anterior surface of pubis

I: Middle 1/3 of linea aspera

A: Flex hip, adduct hip, internally rotate hip

N: Obturator nerve (L2, L3, L4)

Adductor Brevis

O: Inferior ramus of pubis

I: Distal pectineal line, proximal ½ of linea aspera of femur

A: Flex hip, adduct hip, internally rotate hip

N: Obturator nerve (L2, L3, L4)

Adductor Magnus

O:

• Anterior Fibers: inferior pubic ramus, ramus of ischium

• Posterior Fibers: ischial tuberosity

I: Middle of linea aspera of femur, medial to gluteal tuberosity

A:

• Anterior fibers: adduct hip, flex hip

• Posterior fibers: adduct hip, extend hip

N: Obturator nerve (L2, L3, L4), Sciatic Nerve (L4, L5, S1)

Gracilis

O: Inferior ½ of pubic symphysis, inferior pubic ramus of pubis

I: Medial tibia, Distal to medial condyle of tibia

A: Adduct hip, flex knee, internally rotate knee/leg

N: Obturator nerve (L2, L3, L4)

Obturator Externus

O: Anterior surface of obturator membrane

I: Torchanteric fossa of femur

A: Externally rotate hip, adduct hip

N: Obturator Nerve (L3, L4)

Tensor Fascia Lata

O: Iliac crest of ilium, anterior superior iliac spine of ilium

I: iliotibial tract

A: flex hip, internally rotate hip, abduct hip, assist in knee extension

N: Superior gluteal nerve (L4, L5, S1)
