Research Support :)
Comes from Asch's line study, where participants conformed publicly, while privately knowing the answer was wrong, this supports the idea of compliance as the behaviour changed without changing the internal behaviour
Not effective for long- term :(
Compliance is often temporary, once the group pressure is removed behaviour will return to normal, suggesting that compliance is less effective in explaining change in group behaviour in the long- term
Overepresentation : (
Compliance may be over- represented in lab studies, as participants are aware they being observed, increasing demand characteristics and conformity due to wanting to appear co- operative rather than genuinely agreeing
Over all Judgement
Useful for explaining short- term social influence, but less effctive for explaining enduring attitude change
