James Monroe
Negotiator of the Louisiana Purchase, and the fifth president of the US. He put forth the monroe doctrine establishing the US sphere of influence in the western hemisphere that became the foundation of US foreign policy.
John Quincy Adams
Son of John Adams and sec of state to James Monroe; he largely formulated the monroe doctrine. He was the 6th president of the US and later became a rep in Congress.
