Magnetism
The phenomenon where materials exert an attractive or repulsive force on certain metals, primarily iron.
Lodestone
A naturally magnetized form of magnetite that can attract small pieces of iron or other magnetic objects.
Ferromagnetism
The ability of certain materials to become magnetized and retain their magnetic properties.
Permanent Magnet
A magnet made of hard materials such as nickel and cobalt, which retains its magnetization.
Temporary Magnet
A magnet made of soft materials like iron, which easily loses its magnetization.
Curie Point
The temperature at which ferromagnetic materials lose their characteristic magnetic properties.
Magnetic Field
The region around a magnet where magnetic forces can be detected, with strength depending on the magnet's material and magnetization.
Domain Theory
The theory that all magnetism results from the movement of electrons within materials.
Compass
A magnet suspended on a pivot to freely rotate in alignment with Earth's magnetic field.
Magnetic Field Lines
Imaginary lines that represent the strength and direction of a magnetic field, originating from the north pole to the south pole of a magnet.
