Oxygenation
The process of providing oxygen to body tissues for proper functioning.
Thermoregulation
The body's ability to maintain a stable internal temperature.
Pulmonary ventilation
The process of breathing, which includes inhalation and exhalation.
Hypoxemia
Reduced oxygen levels in the blood.
Dyspnea
Difficult or labored breathing.
Hyperthermia
A condition of elevated body temperature due to excessive heat production or exposure.
Pyrexia
A body temperature above the usual range, typically greater than 100.4°F (38°C).
Hypothermia
A condition where core body temperature drops below 96°F (36°C).
Kussmaul breathing
Deep, labored breathing pattern associated with severe metabolic acidosis.
Cheyne-Stokes respirations
A pattern of breathing characterized by alternating periods of apnea and hyperventilation.
Factors affecting respiratory function
Age, environment, lifestyle, health status, medications, psychological factors.
Signs of hyperthermia
Excessive sweating, pale skin, dizziness, nausea, rapid weak pulse.
Nursing process for oxygenation
Assess, Analyze, Plan, Implement, Evaluate.
Core temperature
The temperature of deep tissues in the body; remains relatively constant.
Surface temperature
The temperature of the skin and subcutaneous tissues, affected by environmental factors.
Nursing interventions for fever
Monitor vital signs, provide fluids, administer antipyretics, reduce physical activity.
Conditions affecting airway obstruction
Upper airway obstruction and lower airway obstruction.
Factors influencing heat loss
Evaporation, convection, radiation, conduction.
