HOW ANIMATION WORKS
STORYBOARDING, BACKGROUND MAKING, KEYFRAMING, CLEAN-UP, IN-BETWEENING, COLORING, COMPOSITING
Poses or drawings drawn by the animator representing the action and narrative required by their scene or sequence
KEYFRAMES
a pose at the turning point of a motion path – often during the fastest moment of a motion.
BREAKDOWN POSES
the drawings which define the movement.
KEY DRAWINGS
the drawings which define the arcs and fine-tune the timing. Often, they are the middle of the action
BREAKDOWNS
can be a key, but often is just the emphasis of a movement.
EXTREMES
the remaining frames that make the animation smoother.
IN-BETWEENS
The process of keyframing and adding breakdowns while planning the timing is also called the
BLOCKING
the wobble of hand-drawn lines, particularly noticeable when characters are redrawn in every frame even though they are standing still. Other types of animation deal with line boil by using the same drawing for parts of the character that aren't moving and only re-drawing the parts that move.
LINE BOIL
a technique or process in animation where reusing of animated frames, mirroring of images.
LIMITED ANIMATION
A chart that shows frame by frame of all drawings of every animated scene.
