Preterist
Revelation (up to ch. 20) is about the fall of Jerusalem and/or Rome.
Partial-preterists believe some parts of Revelation have happened, but the rest cannot be fulfilled without the second coming of Christ.
Historicist
Revelation presents what has and will happen in all of world history in chronological order (Luther and Calvin).
Futurist
Revelation is about events that will happen in the future, at the end of the world.
Idealist
Revelation (up to ch. 20) presents what generally happens between the first and second coming of Jesus.
Protestant response to noncanonical books (1 Maccabees, 1 Enoch, etc)
"Useful, but not Scripture. Helpful to know, but not essential to know."
Carefully discern, check for corroboration between biblical texts (Jude and 1 & 2 Peter all reference 1 Enoch), learn from its usefulness but don't treat it as Biblical Truth (EX: taking morals from fairy tales).
What evidence/arguments should we trust when thinking about disputed Pauline letters?
1. Differences in theology: church as all believers vs. one specific body and over-realized vs. "regular" eschatology (Ephesians and 2 Thessalonians).
2. Differences in vocabulary and rhetorical style (1 & 2 Timothy and Titus).
3. Discrepancies between Paul's travels and what is known about his life (1 & 2 Timothy and Titus).
What do we mean by the "indicative-imperative" structure of some Pauline letters?
A teaching (indicative) followed by an exhortation relating to the teaching (imperative). An example of this is Ephesians' structure.
1 Corinthians
Celibacy/abstinence can be good
Philippians
Imitate Christ
Colossians
Wisdom is holding onto Christ and not being deceived by the world and its wisdom.
2 Thessalonians
Do not be idle; work for your own upkeep.
1 Timothy
Teach correct doctrine.
Hebrews
Jesus is divine (above the angels).
James
Faith requires obedience.
1 John
True Christians can be confident in the truth of the Gospel.
