Temporal lobe, rostral to hippocampus

What are the functions of the amygdala?

1. Process + interprets sensory data

2. Assigns emotions (especially negative) to memories

3. Modulates cortical-hypothalamic flow

When does the amygdala attach emotion to a memory?

IF the memory was formed when SNS + cortisol are increased/high

Where does the amygdala give info to?

Hippocampus —> hypothalamus

What does the amydala trigger the hypothalamus to do?

Increases SNS + endocrine response
