South asian rulers and elites found attractive the belief that leaders were god-kings. Srivijayan rulers used indian religions like buddhism to provide a higher level of "magical power" to political powers. Srivijaya sponsored the creation of images of the Buddha and various bodhisattvas whose faces resemble those of cesed kings and were inscribed were traditional curses against anyone who would destroy them. Its shape resonated with an ancient south asian veneration of mountains as sacred places and abode of ancestral spirits.

Angkor wat is a temple complex hosted b the angkor kingdom, of the khmer empire. And architectural expression of hindus, and the largest religious structure. Like srivajan, angkor wat might invested in religous structure to increase power to the kingdom and wealth, as it would've been an appeal to people far away.

Women in SE Asia had fewer restrictions than women in india and china, where India and China codified patriarchy. They were able to own property and initiate divorce. Women were concerned with commerce, and served as gladiators, warriors, palace staff, artists, and religous teachers.
