Meninges
The three protective layers surrounding the brain and spinal cord, which include the pia mater, arachnoid mater, and dura mater.
Pia Mater
The thin, delicate inner layer of the meninges that closely adheres to the surface of the brain and spinal cord.
Arachnoid Mater
The middle layer of the meninges, located between the pia mater and dura mater.
Dura Mater
The outermost layer of the meninges, which is tough and provides a protective covering for the brain and spinal cord.
Subarachnoid Space
The space between the arachnoid mater and pia mater, which contains cerebrospinal fluid.
Cranial Nerves
Twelve pairs of nerves that emerge directly from the brain, responsible for various sensory and motor functions.
Pituitary Gland
A small gland located at the base of the brain that regulates important hormonal functions.
