If 2 species share exactly the same niche that they are competing over, what will be the outcome of this competition?

One species will ALWAYS outcompete the other and drive it extinct in the shared environment.

Which species will outcompete the other and exclude it from the petri dish environment?  

P. aurelia, because it has lower resource demands per individual.

If niche overlap is not complete, for example if the range of optimum differs for the 2 species, which species will competitively exclude the other and why?

Species 1 or 2; it depends on what value of the environmental variable is present in the environment.
