What is a positive number?
A number greater than zero.
What is a negative number?
A number less than zero.
Where is zero located on the number line and what does it represent?
Zero sits in the middle between negative numbers (left) and positive numbers (right); it is neither positive nor negative.
On the number line, which side contains negative numbers and which side contains positive numbers?
Negative numbers are on the left; positive numbers are on the right.
What do 'below sea level' and 'above sea level' correspond to in the context of numbers?
'Below sea level' corresponds to negative numbers; 'above sea level' corresponds to positive numbers.
If you start at +3 on the number line and move up 2, what is the new value?
+5.
What does a balance of money represent when it is negative (debt)?
Debt or money owed; balance below zero.
Do negative numbers represent values greater than zero?
No. Negative numbers are less than zero (to the left of zero on the number line).
