Believed that nothing could come from nothing , nothing could actually “change”

Mediates between the monism of Parmenides and pluralism of Empedocles

Believed that everything was made of tiny eternal and immutable blocks called atoms

Atoms mean uncuttable, Atoms are different, otherwise no variety, but each constitutes a Parmenidean “One”, formed all things

Materialist

Believed in material things,

determinist

all life was governed by mechanical laws

teleology,

study of design in nature

Believed that there is no immortal soul or eternal life

the atoms constituting the soul disperse at death to form other souls

qualities such as warmth, taste, and color are not really in the object but in the perceiver, whereas such qualities as weight, density, and hardness are in the object
