What is Narrative Text?
Text that tells a story. Can be fiction or non fiction.
What are common elements of a narrative?
Story, Plot, Setting, conflict, and Conclusion.
What is conflict?
a part of narrative nonfiction, a struggle between people or opposing forces.
How is conflict built?
Over the course of a text, it has a cause, complications which build up the conflict, and a climax and resolution. Resolutions can change people in the text.
What are the 4 main types of conflict?
Versus self, Versus nature, Versus another, Versus Society
What is setting?
The place or time story occurs.
What are descriptive details?
details that appeal to the imagination and helps create vivid images in readers minds. Can help people make inferences when combined with other things like textual evidence.
What is characterization?
How authors introduce a character and their emotions and personality.
What is direct characterization?
Characterization where the author directly states how the character is. Example “He was furious after arguing with martha”
What is indirect characterization?
Characterization where the author tells the readers indirectly. Example “His eyes dilated, he stopped moving, standing there like a ghost after looking at her”.
What are the 3 main types of author purposes?
To entertain, To persuade, To inform.
What are comic strips and graphic novels?
Types of text that uses words and images to tell a story, presented in comic book form. Can be fiction or nonfiction and usually are intended for a specific audience.
What are Memoirs?
A type of autobiographical writing where a author shares events from their life in 1st person perspective.
What are open ended questions?
Questions in interviews that allows the interviewer to tell more about themselves instead of answering with a yes/no response.
How do you prepare questions for a interview?
By researching the subject you will interview and creating specific open ended questions for the subject.
What are the parts of a formal E-Mail?
Salutation, Body, Closing, and Signature.
What does the Salutation of a formal Email look like?
Dear (title) (Name) Followed by a colon. Basically Dear Principle Joestar:
What should the body of a formal email look like?
The 1st body paragraph should introduce the problem, the effects of the problem, and your viewpoint. Second body paragraph should propose a clear solution and sum up the importance of solving the problem.

What are Audiences in Formal Emails?
Audience is who you will write your Email for. 3 Types. Expert, General, and Interested audience.
What are General audiences?
Audiences who have no knowledge of the issue and have no power to do anything about it. Needs a lot of background information for these audiences in Emails.
What are interested audiences?
Audiences with some background knowledge on the problem but no power to solve it. These people need less background info in emails and you can ask them to support your cause.
What is a Expert audience?
Audiences with a lot of background knowledge and a power to solve the issue. For these people, you show a lot of effects of the problem and suggest a possible solution.
What is a editorial?
A Newspaper page with the writer arguing about their viewpoint on a topic. Same format as a essay with introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion.
