Interphase
The stage where the cell grows, replicates its DNA and organelles, and produces proteins needed for cell division.
Mitosis
The process that divides a cell's nucleus into two nuclei, each with an identical set of DNA.
Cytokinesis
The process that divides the cytoplasm between two daughter cells after mitosis.
Prophase
The phase of mitosis where chromosomes condense, the nuclear envelope breaks down, and spindle fibers begin to form.
Metaphase
The phase of mitosis characterized by spindle fibers attaching to the centromere of each chromosome, aligning them along the equator.
Anaphase
The phase of mitosis where chromatids separate to opposite sides of the cell.
Telophase
The phase of mitosis where nuclear membranes start to form, chromosomes begin to uncoil, and spindle fibers fall apart.
All body cells
Cells in your body that undergo division, although the rate of division varies based on the body's needs.
Nuclear division
The process that occurs during mitosis to separate the nucleus into two.
Centrioles
Cellular structures that move to opposite poles during prophase of mitosis.
