Projectile motion
Refers to the movement of either an object or the human body as it travels through air
Factors affecting horizontal displacement
angle of release
Velocity of release
Height of release
Describe angle of release
dependent on height of release and landing
When release height and landing are the same the optimum angle of release is 45 degrees
When release height is below landing height the optimum angle of release is greater than 45 degrees
When release height is greater than landing height the optimum angle of release is less than 45 degrees.
Describe velocity of release
An increase in velocity will increase horizontal displacement.
Describe height of release
An increase in release height will increase horizontal displacement
the force of gravity is constantly acting on the mass of an object, so the higher te relate the greater the horizontal displacement
Factors affecting projectiles
weight and air resistance are the 2 forces
A true parabola (uniform curves/ symmetrical)
A distorted parabola (deviates from true parabola)
Horizontal and vertical vectors
vertical is only affected by gravity.
Horizontal remains constant
