What are the 5 main parts of the brain?

• The frontal lobe

• The temporal lobe

• The parietal lobe

• The occipital lobe

• The cerebellum

What do these parts of the brain do?

• Frontal lobe - Higher cognitive functions such as impulse control, emotions, problem solving, social interaction and motor function.

• Temporal lobe - Emotions, encoding of memory, visual perception

• Parietal lobe - Receiving and processing sensory input such as touch, pressure, heat, cold and pain, perception of body awareness and the construction of a spatial coordinate system

• Occipital lobe - Visual perception, including form and motion

• Cerebellum - motivation, social and emotional behaviours, and reward learning

What is the limbic system?

• The part of the brain involved in our behavioural and emotional responses, especially when it comes to behaviours we need for survival such as feeding
