Nonmetal Compounds
Molecules consisting of nonmetals use prefixes such as mono-, di-, tri-, tetra-, penta-, hexa-, hepta-, octa-, nona-, and deca-.
Naming Convention for Ions
For ionic compounds, name the metal first, then the nonmetal with an -ide ending.
Transition Metals Naming
For transition metals, indicate the charge with parentheses when naming.
Zinc and Scandium
Zinc is always +2, Scandium is always +3, and Silver is always +.
