Electromagnetic induction idea
a changing electric field produces a magnetic field at right angles to the electric field
Sts electromagnetic induction
Electrical generator (power stations, alternators in cars and dynamos on bikes)
Magnetic flux
the number of magnetic field lines that pass through a certain area A whose surface is perpendicular to the field lines
Magnetic Field Strength
The number of flux lines per unit cross-sectional area
Electromagnetic induction
the production of an electromotive force (EMF) in a circuit when the magnetic flux linking the circuit changes
Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction
The induced e.m.f is directly proportional to the rate of change of magnetic flux link
Lenz's Law
The emf induced in a circuit acts in such a way to oppose the change producing it
Mutual induction
Any arrangement of 2 coils such that a current is induced in one when the current is changed in the other is said to possess mutual inductance
Self induction
The production of a back EMF in a coil whenever the current in that coil changes
Sts inductors
Dimmer switches stage lighting, tuning circuits radios, smoothing variations in DC
Transformer
A device that increases or decreases the voltage of alternating current
