Controlled Substance Act of 1970
Established five “schedules” of drugs based on whether a drug has:
A potential for abuse?
An accepted medical use?
A potential for physical or psychological dependence?
Schedule I
This kind of drug has the highest potential for abuse, NO accepted medicinal use and has a high potential for abuse and addiction
Schedule V
This kind of drug has lowest potential for addiction/abuse
