What is narrative?
How a story is told rather than what is told.
e.g. when a movie have a beginning, middle and end.
What are the 5 states a story must go through according to Todorov?
Equilibrium - This is the world as it exists at the beginning.
Disruptions - something that changes the state of the beginning. What disrupts the norms
Recognition: when the main characters realises something has been disrupted. This is the stage of the narrative which typically sets the journey for the rest of the movie, show etc
Repair - This is where the protagonists go to fix the disruption and restore the equilibrium.
New equilibrium - either when the equilibrium is repaired or when there is a new norm,
There are all told in linear narratives. It is often difficult to use in non linear structured film
