RBC count
The number of red blood cells (RBCs) per volume of blood.
High RBC count
Could indicate polycythemia or possible bone marrow cancer.
Low RBC count
Could indicate anemia, hemorrhage, or hemolysis.
Total WBC count
The number of white blood cells (WBCs) per volume of blood.
High WBC count (leukocytosis)
Could indicate infection, poison, or metabolic disease.
High WBC count with many abnormal cells
Could indicate leukemia.
Low WBC count (leukopenia)
Could indicate tuberculosis, measles, typhoid fever, hepatitis or cirrhosis, or exposure to radiation.
Elevated Neutrophils
Could indicate acute bacterial infection, rheumatoid arthritis, burns, stress, or a normal result of exercise.
Elevated Lymphocytes
Could indicate mumps, measles, or whooping cough.
Elevated Monocytes
Could indicate chronic diseases such as tuberculosis (TB) or leukemia, chronic inflammation, or viral infection.
Increased Eosinophils
Could indicate allergies or parasitic infections.
Increased Basophils
Occur in inflammatory processes.
Hematocrit
The packed cell volume — the quantity of RBCs compared to plasma.
