What is nuclear fusion?

The process of fusing two nuclei to form a larger nuclei. There’s a small loss of mass and release of energy. Doesn’t happen at low temperatures and pressures because the electrostatic force of repulsion between protons is too great.

2

What is nuclear fission?

The process of splitting a nucleus. When a uranium-235 nucleus absorbs a thermal neutron, it splints into two daughter nuclei and two or three neutrons, releases energy in the process.
