Performance Management Process
A structured process to ensure employee activities contribute to organizational goals, involving defining outcomes, developing goals, providing support, evaluating performance, identifying improvements, and providing rewards.

Includes irrelevant information that affects the validity of performance measures.

Omission of relevant information in performance measures.
Rating Attributes
Performance measurement method that looks at individual employee performance relative to a uniform set of standards.
Behaviourally Anchored Rating Scale (BARS)

Management by Objectives (MBO)
A results-oriented performance appraisal method where employees and managers set specific goals that contribute to organizational objectives.
Union
An organization formed to represent the interests of its members to employers.
Collective Bargaining
Negotiation process between union representatives and management to agree on conditions of employment.
Grievance Procedure
A formal process for resolving conflicts between union and management over collective agreement violations.
Equity Theory
A theory that suggests fairness in pay occurs when employees perceive a balance between their inputs (efforts) and outputs (rewards) compared to others.
Unconscious Bias
Judgments that affect decision-making based on prohibited grounds such as background or personal issues.
Pay Equity Legislation
Laws that address wage gaps by ensuring that jobs of equal value receive similar pay.
Distributive Justice
The perceived fairness of the outcomes received, such as pay or rewards.
Procedural Justice
The perceived fairness of the processes used to determine outcomes.
Interpersonal Justice
The perceived respect and dignity applied to individuals throughout processes.
Performance Feedback
Information provided to employees regarding their performance, ideally frequent and in a positive context.
Total Rewards
An employee reward strategy that encompasses all investments made by the organization in its workforce, including direct and indirect compensation.
Expatriates
Employees who take on international assignments, often requiring cultural and language adaptability.
