Culture
The shared beliefs, practices, norms, and behaviors that shape how people live, think, and act.
Diversity
The differences people bring, such as race, religion, gender, values, and ideas.
Comfort Zone
The social setting where a person feels safest and most understood; often with family, friends, or people with similar values.
Viewpoints
One’s perspective or approach; openness to new ideas and preference for connecting with similar others; seeks a balance between novelty and similarity.
Norms
Rules of behavior within a culture.
Values
What matters most to a person or group; guiding beliefs and principles.
Language
The system of communication used to connect people; can facilitate connection or create barriers.
Anti-Discrimination Law
Laws that protect individuals from discrimination in employment and other areas (e.g., on the basis of race, religion, sex, or origin).
Civil Rights Act of 1964
Federal legislation that prohibits job discrimination and promotes fairness in hiring and promotion (includes Title VII).
Title VII
A provision of the Civil Rights Act that bans employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.
EEOC
The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, which enforces Title VII and other anti-discrimination laws.
