Anaerobic Respiration
Cellular respiration that occurs when the oxygen supply does not meet the energy demands of the organism and takes place in the cytosol.
Glycolysis
The basis of anaerobic respiration, as with aerobic respiration, occurring in the cytosol.
Lactic Acid Fermentation
A type of anaerobic respiration that occurs in animals where pyruvate is converted into lactic acid (lactate).
Alcoholic Fermentation
A type of anaerobic respiration that occurs in plants or yeast where pyruvate is converted into ethanol and carbon dioxide.
Inputs of Lactic Acid Fermentation (Animals)
Glucose, 2 ADP + Pi
Outputs of Lactic Acid Fermentation (Animals)
Lactic acid, 2 ATP
Inputs of Alcoholic Fermentation (Plants and Yeast)
Glucose, 2 ADP + Pi
Outputs of Alcoholic Fermentation (Plants and Yeast)
Ethanol, Carbon dioxide, 2 ATP
Location of Glycolysis
Cytosol
Inputs of Glycolysis
1 glucose, 2 ADP + 2 Pi, 2 NAD+
Outputs of Glycolysis
2 pyruvate, 2 ATP, 2 NADH
