Design Context
A design problem that needs to be solved.
Research
Using primary and secondary sources to gain new knowledge into areas that will help you understand the Design Context.
Specification
A list of points that your product must have, be or do. These can be written following an analysis of the Research information.
Initial Ideas
An Exploration of possible solutions generated based on your Research and Specification, usually annotated hand drawings
Development
Improving and refining the Initial Ideas to make them as good as they can be
Modelling
Creating prototypes you can test and learn from letting you make changes and improve your design one step at a time
Final design
An accurate dimensioned ‘working drawing’, usually CAD, including details of materials to help manufacture the developed design idea
Manufacture
Materials, tools and processes used along with the information from your working drawing to make your chosen design
Evaluation
Completed once the product has been made, the product is checked against the specification to see how successful it is.
