DNA
A nucleic acid that contains the genetic instructions used in the development and functioning of all known living organisms.
Chromosome
A structure composed of DNA and protein that carries genetic information.
Nucleic Acid
A macromolecule, such as DNA or RNA, that stores and transmits genetic information.
Phosphate Group
A functional group consisting of a phosphorus atom bonded to four oxygen atoms; it is part of the backbone of DNA.
Nitrogenous Base
A molecule that contains nitrogen and acts as a base; in DNA, the bases are adenine, thymine, cytosine, and guanine.
Deoxyribose Sugar
The sugar component of DNA; it is a five-carbon sugar that helps form the DNA backbone.
