dense outer layer o
spongy bone
made up of a honeycomb of small needle-like or flat pieces of bone (trabaculae) red or yellow bone marrow is here
periosteum (irregular, short, and flat bones)
covers the outside of compact bone, white, and is the anchoring point for tendons (m to b) and ligaments (b to b)
endosteum ( irregular, short, flat bones)
covers the inside portion of compact bone, anf the trabaculae of spongy bone, and canals, and also contains ostegeneic cells like the periosteum
diaphysis (long bone)
tubular shaft that forms the long axis of bone
epiphyses (long bone)
ends of long bones that conists of compact bone externally and spongy bone internally
epiphyseal plate (long bone) head area
where bone growth occurs
