Physical Properties

a characteristic of a substance that can be observed or measured without changing the substance's chemical identity

Chemical Properties

any of a material's properties that becomes evident during, or after, a chemical reaction

Alloy

a substance made of two or more metals or of a metal and nonmetallic materials

Thermal Equilibrium

a state where two objects/systems in contact have reached the same temperature, and therefore no net heat flows between them

Conduction

the transfer of heat or electricity through direct contact

Convection

the process of transferring heat through air or liquid currents

Radiation

energy traveling from one place to another in the form of waves or particles

Change of Phase

when matter (like water) shifts from one state (solid, liquid, gas) to another

“Flash Point”

the lowest temperature at which a vapor can form an ignitable mixture in the air

Chemical Reaction

a process in which one or more substances, the reactants, are converted to one or more different substances, the products

Capillary Action

when liquid flows through narrow spaces without external forces, such as gravity
