The purpose is to also be enriched and strengthened to have mutual and lasting fidelity in their marriage. Lastly, marriage provides a source of graces that couples will need in order to live out married life joyfully and fruitfully.

What is the purpose of the question, "[H]ave you come here freely and without reservation to give yourselves to each other in marriage?
The purpose of this question is to make sure that no one was forced or coerced into the marriage. They must enter into the marriage as an act of their own free will. The purpose is to also make sure that they truly do love each other, want to marry, and gave consent. If they were forced, the marriage would be considered invalid.

Why does the Church ask if they will accept children? Why include the phrase, "lovingly from God"? Why include the phrase, "bring them up according to the law of Christ and his Church"?
-The Church asks if they will accept children because the procreative aspect of marriage is a necessary part of the unitive aspect of marriage and having kids is the supreme gift of marriage.
42
New cards
-It includes the phrase, "lovingly from God" to see if they will accept children with happiness and care for them.
43
New cards
-It includes "bring them up according to the law of Christ and his Church" because the nature of a complete on-flesh union between them (the spouses) is directed towards the procreation and education of children that they would have. It is important to raise your kids while teaching them about the Christian faith because you are cooperating in God's act of creation.

Why does the Church ask for their free consent? Why include the phrases, "I promise to be true to you in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health. I will love you and honor you all the days of my life"? Be specific
-The church asks for their free consent because they must mutually give and accept each other and declare their willingness to accept and educate children. The marriage must not be coerced or forced.
46
New cards
-The phrases, "I promise to be true to you in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health. I will love you and honor you all the days of my life" are included because the man and woman have to understand and agree that they will both take care of each other when they are sick and healthy. Matrimonial consent is a free act of the will, and they both have to agree to the marriage and understand the duties that come with it.
