5.4 Industrial Revolution Continues

the steam engine (a machine that converted fossil fuels to mechanical energy) caused an increase in industrialization. there was a change from water to steam

  •   steamships -> mass produced goods transported further and faster

  • east and south europe slow adaptors because of poor coal dep and land locked

Countries in the middle east + asia saw a decline in their share of production.

India and egypt declined due to expensive textile manufacturing while britain increased by making it cheap and mass producing it

france: after napoleon, they adopted industrial technologies but lacked coal + iron deposits. compared to GB, they missed the intense social upheavals due to the slower industrialization

united states: fast industrialization, some things as gb as long as migration.

russia: if russia did not industrialize, they would be left behind

  • railroad, steam engine tech

  • trans-siberian railroad

  • brutal working conditions that lead to russian revolution

japan: many asian states decreased while japan increased by borrowing heavy from west technology and western education

the economy changed, labor changed, everything changed during the industrial time.
