final

Alcohol fermentation is found in yeast, beer, and wine. It is the process in which glucose is oxidized into pyruvate to generate ATP when O2 is not present. From this pyruvate is reduced to create ethanol and regenerate NAD+ to refuel glycolysis.

4
New cards

step 2 inputs

- NADH (oxidized)
- Pyruvate (reduction)

5
New cards

step 2 outputs

- Ethanol (pyruvate)
- NAD+ (NADH - goes back to glycolysis)
- CO2 (Pyruvate - waste)

reason for 2nd step

The purpose of 2nd step is to regenerate NAD+ so it can go back to glycolysis and the cell can continue to make ATP energy.
