Parenchyma cells
Most abundant type of plant cell, performing metabolic functions and capable of division.
Collenchyma cells
Lack a secondary cell wall and provide flexible support in growing plant parts.
Sclerenchyma cells
Have thick secondary cell walls, usually dead at maturity, acting as a rigid support skeleton.
Xylem
Water-conducting tissue made of tracheids and vessel elements, dead at maturity.
Phloem
Food-conducting tissue made of sieve-tube elements and companion cells, alive at maturity.
Plasmodesmata
Openings in cell walls allowing communication and material exchange between adjacent plant cells.
Primary cell wall
The outermost layer of a plant cell wall, flexible and provides initial support.
Secondary cell wall
A tough layer inside the primary cell wall, usually strengthened with lignin.
Middle lamella
A sticky layer between adjacent plant cells.
Stomata
Openings on plant surfaces that allow gas exchange, regulated by guard cells.
What are the main parts of a plant's structure?
The main parts of a plant's structure include the roots, stem, leaves, flowers, and fruit.
